Help Empower Our Dancers With Special Needs

At Danceability Inc, our mission is to provide individualized dance, fitness and movement programs to serve the special needs community.

Founded in 2007, we are now in our 18th year of operation and it is our biggest year yet! We’ve grown to over 200 dancers, from toddlers to seniors, and over a hundred volunteers. Our highly qualified staff work with students weekly in our studio teaching a variety of dance types. This opens up our dancers to a variety of styles, music, and rhythm! Our volunteers dance alongside our dancers each week, providing support and a fun dance buddy.

At the end of every year, in full custom costumes, our dancers and volunteers take the stage to show off everything they’ve learned!

But it isn’t just dance classes we offer- danceability has been expanding into other areas of art and fitness.

  • Our Caregiver and Me class gives our littlest dancers (age 3) and their Caregivers a place to listen to music, work on sensory experiences, and experience movement classes that are right for them.
  • Fitness Frenzy is our adaptive fitness program that teaches more about fitness and workouts while having fun and building up a sweat!
  • Theater Classes are taught by Second Generation Theater which gives our participants a place to expand their performance ability with exciting theater games.
  • Lead danceability staff and teachers have created a unique and special Early Childhood Dance Program which can be adapted to serve individual dancer’s needs.

While our mission is to provide fitness and movement programs that serve the special needs community, we also work to create a community of caregivers, family, and friends who are able to have a space to share experiences, ideas, and resources. Our sensory waiting room provides the perfect atmosphere; welcoming students into a safe and secure environment when they walk through our doors and giving our caregivers a comfortable place to connect.

As a small nonprofit, we rely on kind-hearted donors, sponsors, and grants to be able to provide this fun and unique experience to our dancers.

When you make a donation to this year’s Dance. Love. Learn, your contribution goes even further. Very generous donors are matching donations to help us continue to grow. This allows each donation to make an even bigger impact.

Here at danceability, we are thankful to have such a warm community of supporters who help make our studio possible. It is because of our community that we can make a difference with such deserving individuals and their caregivers. Please consider a donation today!

A Feel-Good – Hands-on – Team-Focused – Learn New Things – Truly Make a Difference

BENEFITS OF JOINING:

  • There is so much more than receiving reports, listening to others talk, and convincing yourself to attend meetings. There are robust discussions, important decisions to be made, input to share, and fun along the way.
  • From the moment you walk into the studio, you know that you are someplace special. And from the day you join the Board, you become an essential reason why danceability is an important place for our dancers and their families.
  • Whether you are new to your career or already retired, you get the chance to learn and try new things. Creativity isn’t just the role of our dancers and their teachers; the Board of Directors is always taking on new things.
  • There are always ways to contribute. Do you have specialized skills in Marketing, Fundraising, Human Resources, IT, or Law? Great! But we also will put to use the unique and diverse skills that each bring to the Board. Including yours.
  • We get to know each other. Whether in person or virtually, we always take the time to get to know each other.
Committee work brings us closer still. And we are a Board that shows up, so our fundraisers and annual performance give us the chance to give ourselves and everyone else some feel-good time collectively!

WHAT DO YOU COMMIT TO?

  • Monthly Board Meetings (in-person or virtual) for 2 hours on a Monday evening.
  • Participation on one of our Committees, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Grant Writing, meeting as scheduled
  • Helping to achieve our current strategic plan, including helping us to be a place where dancers, families, volunteers, and Board Members of diverse backgrounds want to be
  • Attending our fundraisers and special events and committing yourself to help our Annual Performance be the magic it is to our dancers and their families and friends.
  • You do NOT need to be a dancer (most of us are not), nor have a family member with special needs (only a few of us do) – but you do need to see the beauty in what we collectively achieve.
  • You probably contribute to organizations today; we would like danceability to be one of your top three, whatever that amount is consistent with your means. And help us fill baskets for raffles!

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU?

Send a letter of interest and a resume to danceabilitywny@gmail.com or just an email to ask to discuss your claim. We will have a current Board Member reach out to you to see if this is a good fit.
